New to 14
(we are using 14.0.361 Fall quarter) and winter expect to be in
15
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, just
a few less advertised features of 14 that are good to know. Of
course there are the very cool sand solver, better animation
tools, crowds!! (and even better in 15) which you can read about here
(428 in particular look at http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini14.0/news/14/dynamics- Digital Asset is now under Import - same dialogue box
- Vops have completely changed to be context specific, however there are still familiar
- there is a move to have "hda" rather than
"otl" file extensions - both work
- there is now a Save Preset / Delete Preset in the gearbox!
- sphere comes in by default as a polygon
mesh with radius .5 from the shelf tool, but is a primitive
and radius 1 from the tab menu
- hud sliders are back
- just a reminder, packed primitives were introduced in version 13 and are still incredibly useful particularly wrt copy
- details view is now labeled a "geometry spreadsheet" - also you can right click a dop node and select "spreadsheet" to see a "details view" of the relationships - it will come up in a pane labeled geometry spreadsheet
- scatter node has changed substantially
- there is now an .sc format which promised to be faster than the .gz format for caching sims "New BLOSC compression for sim files (.sc extension) that is 3-10 times faster than gzip compression"
